Golden Clarias Catfish Farming Model

With advantages such as fast growth, strong disease resistance, and good adaptability to various environments, the golden clarias catfish has become a high-value aquaculture species.

The golden clarias catfish is currently a popular species thanks to its hardiness and high profitability. This species can thrive in different farming systems and, after 3.5 to 4 months, can reach 200–300 grams per fish, suitable for harvest and market sale.

1. POND/TANK PREPARATION

Golden clarias catfish can be raised in earthen ponds, concrete tanks, and the increasingly popular tarpaulin-lined tanks.
The optimal water depth is 1.0–1.2 meters.

Before stocking, clean and disinfect the pond/tank using lime, then fill with filtered fresh water. After 2–3 days, apply probiotics to stabilize the water environment.

2. SEED SELECTION – STOCKING

Select fingerlings at 100–120 fish/kg, bright in color, uniform in size, free from deformities or injuries, and with active swimming behavior.
Stocking density should be appropriate: 50–60 fish/m². Before stocking, dip the fish in diluted saltwater to reduce stress and eliminate external pathogens.

3. FEEDING – MANAGEMENT

Golden clarias catfish are omnivorous, making them easy to feed. Use commercial feed containing 28–32% protein depending on the growth stage, or cooked trash fish and by-products. Feed twice daily—morning and afternoon.
Distribute feed evenly across the pond to ensure uniform growth. Avoid overfeeding to prevent waste and bottom pollution.

For water management: every 10–15 days, change 20–30% of the water to maintain a stable environment.

4. DISEASE PREVENTION

Golden clarias catfish are generally robust but may develop fungal infections, parasites, or reddening when water quality deteriorates.
Simple preventive measures include:

– Maintain a clean environment. Apply CaCO₃ lime every 15 days at 4 kg/100 m³ (dissolved and broadcast evenly). Alternatively, use disinfectants such as A-BENZACID 800 every 15–20 days.
During disease outbreaks in the area, limit water exchange or ensure incoming water is filtered and disinfected before use.

– Mix digestive enzymes and vitamin C into the feed to enhance digestion and boost immunity.

Golden clarias catfish farming is a promising direction for many producers. Effective management of water quality, nutrition, and fish health will determine productivity and ensure sustainable profitability.
