(Nguoi Chan Nuoi) – Recently, Hong Kong’s Centre for Food Safety (CFS), under the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, announced that a sample of imported chicken eggs from Vietnam was found to contain Fipronil residues exceeding the legally permitted limit. The authorities have ordered the recall of the affected batch and implemented control measures on chicken eggs imported from Vietnam.
According to the CFS, the egg sample was collected at the import stage as part of the routine Food Surveillance Programme, which tests for various pesticide residues. The results showed that the Fipronil level in the sample was 0.044 mg/kg, exceeding Hong Kong’s legal limit of 0.02 mg/kg, equivalent to 2.2 times the permitted level.
The product in violation was chicken eggs originating from Vietnam, imported by Rich Country Develop Limited and sourced from QL Farms Co., Ltd. (Tay Ninh). The eggs were produced in June 2026.

Immediately after confirming the violation, the CFS notified the importer, ordered it to stop selling the affected products, remove the affected batch from shelves, and initiate an immediate recall. Businesses were also instructed to stop using or selling the products.
The investigation determined that the eggs originated from QL Farms Co., Ltd. The CFS suspended the relevant permit concerning the import of chicken eggs from this farm. At the same time, Hong Kong authorities imposed precautionary measures on all chicken eggs imported from Vietnam. Under these measures, shipments will be held for testing and may only be released onto the market after satisfactory test results are obtained.
The CFS said that if sufficient evidence is established, the authorities will initiate prosecution. Consumers can contact the importer’s hotline at 2765 8123 during business hours for information regarding the recall.
Fipronil is a broad-spectrum insecticide and acaricide. Under Hong Kong’s regulations on pesticide residues in food, individuals or organizations that import, produce, or sell food that does not comply with the regulations may face legal action. The maximum fine stated in the CFS information is HKD 50,000 (equivalent to approximately VND 166 million).
