Vietnam Agricultural Industrial Group Joint Stock Company is allowed to register for quarantine to import frozen goat and sheep meat from Mongolia according to regulations.
Within the framework of the State-level visit to Vietnam of Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, on November 2, 2023, the Director General of the General Department of Veterinary Medicine of Mongolia and the Head of Mongolia’s veterinary agency came and worked at Department of Animal Health (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), at the same time, agreed and officially signed the forms of Export Quarantine Certificate.

Specifically, the sample Certificate of quarantine for frozen goat and sheep meat originating from disease-free areas for foot-and-mouth disease and small ruminant cholera (PPR) according to Mongolian regulations, ensures ensure compliance with recommendations of the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) for export to Vietnam; Sample Certificate of quarantine for export of animal products (including fresh and processed poultry meat; eggs and poultry egg products) from Vietnam to Mongolia.
Mr. Nguyen Van Long, Director of the Department of Animal Health (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), informed that this is the result of efforts after more than 7 years of negotiations in accordance with international regulations and practices, as well as implementing the leadership’s instructions. Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in the spirit of good cooperation between Vietnam and Mongolia. At the same time, to implement the contents of the Minutes between the Vietnam – Mongolia Intergovernmental Committee on trade cooperation.
Also at the meeting on November 2, 2022, the General Directorate of Animal Health of Mongolia and the Department of Animal Health agreed to request Mongolian businesses to carefully study Vietnam’s regulations and register export enterprises. Frozen goat and sheep meat to be evaluated, accepted, and published on the website of the Department of Animal Health (https://cucthuy.gov.vn) according to the provisions of Vietnamese law. After that, Vietnam Agricultural Industrial Group Joint Stock Company can register for quarantine to import frozen goat and sheep meat from Mongolia according to regulations.
On the contrary, Mongolia’s livestock industry, with its typical steppe terrain, mainly develops nomadic livestock farming under the control of veterinary authorities. Poultry farming in Mongolia accounts for a very low proportion. According to Mr. Long, the Mongolian market is a potential market, Vietnamese poultry meat and egg products will have many advantages when accessing this market.
Besides, the development trend of the economy and people’s consumption habits are also changing, especially young people have access to McDonald’s, KFC, etc. fast food restaurants, which will open up many opportunities. Association for Vietnamese businesses.
It is known that currently the Department of Animal Health has been negotiating to open more export markets such as Hong Kong (China), Korea, EU, UK, and Middle Eastern countries.
In September 2023, the Department of Animal Health received and worked with a Korean food safety inspection team to inspect the processed chicken production chain of Joint Stock Company, Koyu & Unitek Company and the Inspection Team of The UK came to inspect Vietnam’s management system and production of processed chicken for export. The Department of Animal Health is waiting for reports from inspection teams.
Currently, Vietnam has officially exported a number of animals and animal products to foreign markets, with an average export value of over 450 million USD/year.
Specifically, Vietnam exports bird’s nests, milk and milk products, and feathers to the Chinese market; processed chicken meat and poultry eggs to the markets of Japan, Hong Kong (China), Eurasian union countries and Mongolia; eggs (including fresh and processed eggs) exported to dozens of countries and territories; pork to Hong Kong market (China); honey to countries such as the US and EU.
